Street Legal Golf Cart Show in The Villages, Florida

| Custom Carts, On the Street | May 4, 2011

The Villages is a large retirement community in Florida which is home to several golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer and Nancy Lopez. Home to a large number of residents, the use of golf carts within the community is encouraged with many homes including a golf cart parking garage.

A large number of the residents get around The Villages community using street legal golf carts, many of which have been customized to the owners' unique tastes. Many of these road legal carts have been fitted with a custom golf cart body kit which has given them a completely different look to a stock cart that you'll normally see around the golf course.

Watch the video below and see lots of custom golf carts in many different styles, such as 30's roasters, coupes, pick ups and hot rods. I think you'll agree that these carts look pretty cool and their owners must of lavished thousands of dollars on modifications for their golf carts. Perhaps you'll see a few ideas for your own cart?

As these are street legal carts they have been fitted with golf cart windshields, mirrors and lights in order to make them safe and pass the local legislation for these types of vehicles.

Other popular modifications are additional rear seats, custom paint and canvas hoods instead of the traditional golf cart canopy roof.

Its hard to believe that a retirement community could be such a hub of custom golf cart activity and I hope this encourages all golf cart owners to modify their carts. Leave your comments below about your favorite custom cart from the video.

I’m a Producer at CBS News Sunday Morning and we’re looking into a segment on custom golf carts. Can you give me anymore information on when the golf cart show was in The Villages and any good contact information there for the organizers and golf cart enthusiasts?
    Thank you!

  2. Dear Ms. Rosner,

I saw your post above & wanted to reply. My husband & I tape your show every Sunday & enjoy it immensely – especially the recent edition on pets & animals! I think that a segment on street legal golf carts would be very interesting, especially based in a community such as The Villages. If I can point you in a direction on who to get in touch with, I would be more than happy to help. My in-laws live in The Villages and can get any information you may need. You could also check out the web site http://www.virginiatrace.com/links/ClubsListing.pdf. This lists all of the clubs in The Villages & should list the golf enthusiasts clubs.

If you do such a segment, we would love to be included in some way. I am a principal of Weather or Not a golf cart enclosure company. We are a revolutionary golf cart enclosure company. Our enclosures can be used on traditional or street legal golf carts, motorized or manually. Please check out our web site at http://www.weatherornotgolf.com. This is a patented invention that was inspired by golf carts in The Villages & the struggles that one has during a rain storm in lowering the “traditional” golf cart enclosures. Would love to hear from you.
