Pope Benedict XVI recently cruised through Venice in his new pope-mobile, an E-Z-Go custom golf cart. At the beginning of May over 300,000 people flocked to see him visit the romance capital of the world, the first Papal visit there in 26 years.
After the traditional open air mass, Pope Benedict enjoyed a boat ride on the city's famed canals.
This new pope-mobile takes a departure from traditional vehicles which tend to shield the Pope behind bullet proof glass.
Although, the ride in the golf cart was held under tight security with the Pope flanked by his personal security corps.
The E-Z-Go golf cart chosen for the pope-mobile was the Shuttle 6 and was provided by E-Z-GO's Italian distributor, JET SRL. The cart was then customized by the Vatican with a special platform and safety rails, allowing the Pope and his papal assistants to travel in safety.
The E-Z-Go Shuttle is a 6-seater cart with a 1,200lb capacity, which is more than adequate to hold the Pope and the sturdy platform on which he stands. An electric golf cart was chosen for its 48V DC power, zero emissions and environmentally friendly operation.
After it was used for this papal visit to Venice it has been transported back to the Vatican for use in the future.
