The much talked about book about Tiger Woods, The Big Miss, written by his former coach Hank Haney came out a couple of days ago. In the run up to its launch the sports world has been writing about some of his revelations, including Tiger's obsession with the military that caused him an injury, his dislike of fellow golfer Ian Poulter and his generally miserly ways.
But what is of interest to us is that according to Haney one area where Tiger does not have any problem spending money is on his collection of custom golf carts. When Haney showed up to Tiger's house on his first day as his new swing coach, Tiger was on his front lawn next to his tricked out, custom golf cart.
The cart had "spinner wheels with a TW logo, a stereo system, and a top speed of 28 miles per hour," Haney writes.
Haney explained earlier in the book that Tiger didn't really care about extravagance when it came to his house. But he explains that when it came to his golf carts, he was apparently all about the bling.
We assume that the Buick golf cart that is shown in the above picture was supplied as part of the sponsorship deal Tiger had with the auto maker and is not the one that Haney writes about. Everyone now knows about Tiger's "outgoing personality" away from the golf course and he would have had no problem being noticed in a golf cart fitted with spinner wheels and a banging stereo system. With a top speed that's twice as fast as a stock golf cart Tiger also wanted it to have as much "go" as it has "show".
We're proud that the worlds greatest golfer has the same interest in custom golf carts as us. Although we're wondering if Tiger boosted the top speed up to a heady 28mph so that he could outrun the paparazzi or to escape the wrath of his then-wife Elin Nordegren!!
