EZGO Cushman Hauler 72V Utility Golf Cart

The new Cushman Hauler will have a 72V AC drivetrain giving greater range and power

E-Z-Go/Cushman launched their new 72V AC utility golf cart, the Cushman Hauler, at the 2013 PGA Merchandise Show this week. This 72V electric golf cart provides the range and power normally associated with gas golf carts. In a first for the golf cart industry this groundbreaking 72V AC electrical technology provides the range and power of a gas cart, but with the quietness and zero emissions that you get with electric carts.

The 72V AC powertrain provides up to 50 miles of range between charges and the patented AC Drive technology is said to be 25% more efficient than the current 48V DC technology. An electric powered utility cart may prove an attractive option for golf course superintendents that usually rely on gas carts which are noisy and can disturb golfers.

"This new Cushman Hauler finally gives golf-course operators and superintendents a quiet, green utility vehicle that provides ample range and power for the longest, toughest day's work without annoying golfers," said Michael R. Parkhurst, VP golf for E-Z-GO, "Cushman has a long history of innovation in utility-vehicle technology, and the 72-volt Hauler continues and upholds that tradition."

To prolong its range the new Cushman Hauler features regenerative braking that recharges the batteries whenever the vehicle's brakes are applied. The Hauler will have a 9.5 cubic ft. cargo bed as standard with a maximum load capacity of 1000 lbs. A 14.9 cubic ft. aluminum cargo bed will be available as a factory option for those who need a larger carrying capacity. To assist the driver when carrying large loads the Hauler comes equipped with speed control to maintain constant speeds up and down the steep slopes that will likely be encountered on a golf course.

Given the advantages that 72V AC power provides in this utility cart, how long before 72V AC power is standard in regular E-Z-Go golf carts?

The new Cushman Hauler will be available mid-2013 and can be seen at the upcoming Golf Industry Show February 6-7 in San Diego. For more info read the Cushman hauler press release.
