The mother of Nascar drivers Kyle and Kurt Busch was injured in a golf cart crash at the Phoenix International Raceway over the weekend. She was traveling in a limo golf cart along with five other passengers when it flipped over on Saturday during the Nascar race.
Four passengers were taken to local hospitals for their minor injuries, but Kurt and Kyle Busch’s mom refused transport. Avondale Deputy Fire Chief Steve Ellsworth reported that the cart was coming down a hill to an in-field access tunnel and lost control, causing it to flip over. Excessive speed was not thought to be a factor in the accident.
The Avondale Nascar track features a 230-foot-long tunnel built beneath it that allows access for race crews and fans to the infield and track complex. There was no report as to whether the passengers were wearing safety belts.
Kurt Busch took to Twitter to comment about his mom’s accident with a little bit of humor.
“Don’t get in any moving vehicle w/ my mom. She was involved in a crash in the tunnel b4 the end of the race. A little banged up”, Tweeted Kurt Busch
He later Tweeted that his mom was OK and thanked all of his Twitter followers for their nice thoughts and prayers. He did mention that this is not the first time that his mother has been involved in a vehicle crash. According to Kurt she’s had 3 car crashes and now one golf cart wreck in the last nine months.
To raise his mother’s spirits Kyle Busch went on to win Saturday’s Dollar General 200 Nationwide Series race during the Nascar race weekend.
